Beach day checklist
- Arrive about an hour before low tide and walk the newest wet sand line.
- Bring a mesh bag, a small scoop and water shoes — coquina and shell hash cut.
- Leave live animals where they are: shells with an occupant, sand dollars still furry, and anything moving in a tidepool.
- Check the beach page for local rules first. Collecting limits, dog access and parking fees differ by county and park.
- Watch for rip currents and posted flags before you wade.
